About West Linn
West Linn was incorporated in 1913 and included the areas of West Oregon City, Willamette Heights, Sunset and Bolton. The city of West Linn was created when a flood took over Linn city. Its name comes from the former city names of Linn City and West Oregon City. West Linn’s population has grown from 225 residents in 1860 to the 25,000 current residents that currently inhabit its 7.5 square mile area. West Linn is located 15 miles south of Portland, Oregon along route 43 from Lake Oswego or off of I-205. It is approximately a 25 minute drive to downtown Portland and the Portland Airport. West Linn was on the 2009 Money magazines top 100 best places to live list.
West Linn is known for excellence in schools and although they have separate schools, the disctrict is shared with the city of Wilsonville and known as the West Linn/Wilsonville school district. Very similar to the city of Lake Oswego, West Linn schools have a reputation for excellence and is one of the best in the state. Elementary, Middle and High schools have well equipped campuses and high graduation rates.
The south and east of West Linn are bordered by the Tualatin and Willamette riveres respectfully. Giving these close waterway, residents can enjoy in kayaking or canoeing along these rivers, which are also popular spot for fishing. The West Linn Parks and Recreation Department provides safe, scenic, and well-maintained parks and facilities with many creative recreation programs for all ages. Throughout the city of West Linn you will find; running trails, public tennis courts and beautifully well kept pet friendly parks and trails. Along with river views, West Linn has some of the best views of Mt Hood, Mt Adams, Mt St Helens and the Cascade Range.
